Changemakers Come to Colorado

Colorado has long attracted fearless, innovative leaders and entrepreneurs eager to actively move the state forward. Such conviction and boldness are needed in the state’s education system. The natural beauty and booming job market mask deep and long-standing educational disparities. Known as the "Colorado Paradox," the state attracts college graduates at higher rates than nearly any other but ranks 50th in the nation when it comes to high school graduates continuing on to college. With more than half of Colorado jobs predicted to require higher education skills in the coming decade, tens of thousands of local students will continue to be denied access to opportunities around them.

Our Impact in Colorado

The opportunity to reimagine public education is now. Since 2007, Teach For America has helped shape the education system in Colorado, driving dramatic improvements for kids. From classroom teachers to school founders and leaders, nonprofit leaders, policy leaders, and local politicians, Teach For America’s impact in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Denver grows larger every year.

Teach For America Colorado recruits and places approximately 95+ new Colorado classroom teachers each year across three vibrant communities of Denver/Aurora, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo.

Continued progress and innovation will require more bold leaders, and that’s where you fit in.

Started in 2022, Ignite is a national tutoring corps designed to accelerate learning and foster belonging with students, leveraging research-based best practices for high-impact tutoring. The Ignite Fellowship builds on Teach For America’s over 30 years of experience recruiting, developing, and supporting talent while partnering with communities across the country to help students overcome the systemic barriers to an excellent education. Colorado’s Ignite program launched in 2025, bringing exceptional leaders into classrooms virtually to add immediate value for students while creating shifts towards the future of learning.

Our Story

Who We Look For

Hoʻokahi nō lā o ka malihini is a ‘Olelo No'eau (Hawai'ian proverb). Translated to "a stranger for only a day" it speaks of how after the first day as a guest, one must help with the work.

Teach For America's Hawai'i region needs:

  • Leaders who embody our regional values of kuleana, ʻohana, and aloha
  • Leaders who embody TFA's core values of choosing courage and acting with humility
  • Leaders with deep ties to Hawai‘i and people with an orientation towards partnership
  • Leaders with awareness and understanding of Hawaiʻi’s history, context, and culture

Local Leadership

The tourism-driven narrative of Hawai‘i as paradise ignores the complex history and experiences of kamaʻāina (local residents) and Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) today. Kamaʻāina and Kanaka Maoli residents are increasingly priced out of their homes and Kanaka Maoli face persistent disparities in education opportunities, health outcomes, and incarceration rates.

This work requires a collective effort, and we are proud to partner with the Hawai'i State Department of Education and our local communities. Fueling the local economy and centering local needs, we're eager to recruit kamaʻāina and Kanaka Maoli corps members. You can read more about this effort, as well as our vision for our keiki, in our 10-year strategic plan or hear from some of our local corps members and alumni in the video below.

Kama'aina Educators Reflect on Teaching

“We're so fortunate to be in this teaching profession where we're allowed to provide access, hope, and opportunity for students that are going to change the world tomorrow.”
