Answers to Frequently Asked Questions Teach For America Ignite

How are Ignite and Teach For America connected?

Teach For America Ignite and the TFA corps are two distinct opportunities that support students and grow future leaders under the Teach For America brand and with a shared mission of expanding opportunity for all students.

TFA Ignite is a part-time, virtual tutoring fellowship for current college students. It builds on Teach For America’s legacy of partnering with schools and communities to expand access to meaningful learning experiences and create opportunity in education. As an Ignite fellow, you’ll tutor small groups of students during the school day, working alongside students to accelerate academic growth and foster a sense of belonging.

The TFA corps is a full-time, paid teaching opportunity for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree. Corps members launch their careers by committing to two years of leading a K–12 classroom and receive salary, benefits, training, and ongoing support.

While the programs are distinct, they’re connected: Ignite can be your first step toward a deeper impact, taking on real responsibility, and building lasting skills. Additionally, if you complete at least one semester with Ignite, you’ll be automatically fast-tracked to the final interview for the corps, should you decide to apply after graduation.

Please note: Ignite fellows are not eligible for benefits such as AmeriCorps funding or student loan forbearance, which are reserved for full-time corps members.
