The Advisory Board is designed to support the pursuit of regional goals, inspire and connect our network members to the community, and build our bench of supporters.
Board Member Goals
- Work to create closer relationships and connections to the Teach For America network.
- Support a priority project and/or make a connection to the community that directly supports advancing towards our 2030 goal.
- Attend at least three out of the four board meetings.
- Attend at least two additional events/activities outside of the board meetings.
- Expand the Advisory Board by sharing two to three names of possible board candidates.
- Make a meaningful financial contribution to Teach For America and support in securing additional funding.
Board Member Qualifications
Having a regional board with a wide range of perspectives is critically important to achieving our mission. Our members possess the following qualities:
You are an executive leader in your organization who believes in the power of leaders in our communities to create meaningful change. You possess possible prior board and/or volunteer experience, fundraising experience, marketing and/or communications experience, and/or event planning experience that allows you to make a difference with Teach For America.
You believe in the power a strong education has to transform a student’s life and the lives of those around them. You believe that all children deserve an excellent education that sets them up for success in whatever they choose to do in life and recognize that the current education system is not meeting this expectation.
You believe that ability is distributed equally across all children, but that, sadly, opportunity is not. You are passionate about or have had experience supporting low-income communities. You believe in supporting students, teachers, schools, and communities to ensure that all children receive an excellent education.
You are connected to other leaders in the community, both in the corporate and philanthropic communities. You are willing to share Teach For America’s work with your personal community. You actively invest others in our work by showcasing our efforts on your social channels, bringing your connections to our events, encouraging others to give to our work, making direct connections, etc.
You believe that giving back financially to organizations like ours will make meaningful change in the community. You can commit to giving or getting up to $25,000 annually and making Teach For America one of the top three organizations you give to—ensuring that we are able to move our critical work forward.

Teach For America North Carolina proudly supports educators, students, leaders, and community members throughout the Charlotte-Piedmont Triad and Eastern North Carolina regions. We collectively work to expand educational opportunities for students in North Carolina.
Why North Carolina?
In North Carolina you can join other passionate leaders willing to step in where they’re needed most: the classroom. Our state is growing rapidly, with advancements in tech, medicine, and higher education, as well as thriving professional and collegiate sports scenes. However, thousands of vacancies in education exist.
Teach For America offers promising leaders a springboard for a purpose-driven career and supports them through best-in-class training and development to advance educational excellence and expand opportunity for kids living in North Carolina—a state rich in opportunity, history, and culture. In just a few hours, you can journey from the rustic mountains to bustling cities or the stunning beaches, all while enjoying a low cost of living and lower expenses associated with teacher licensure compared to other states.
Where We Work
Corps members teach in the communities of Charlotte-Piedmont Triad and Eastern North Carolina. Our Ignite fellows currently serve elementary students from Bertie County and Edgecombe County Schools. And, you can find our network of 2,100 alumni working for educational excellence in industries across North Carolina.
Charlotte-Piedmont Triad
The Charlotte-Piedmont Triad consists of Charlotte, Greensboro, High Point, Gibsonville, and McLeansville. This area is home to a burgeoning arts scene, great restaurants, sports, and a short drive to mountains and beaches. As a growing city, the cost of living is still affordable and a place where you can imagine planting roots.
Eastern North Carolina
Experience living in a tight-knit community with a more relaxed pace of life while still having access to the amenities of the more urban Raleigh and Durham. This area is attractive for its proximity to beaches, mild climate, and lower cost of living.
Our Work in North Carolina
Teacher Corps
Corps members teach full time for at least two years in low-income communities. They are hired by a local school or district, paid the same salary and benefits as other new teachers, and trained by Teach For America. Through this experience corps members are able to make a lasting impact on the students of North Carolina while gaining the tools to grow in their leadership as their career unfolds.
Ignite Fellowship
This paid, virtual fellowship brings exceptional leaders into classrooms to accelerate learning, build confidence, and foster belonging with students. One-hundred percent of partner schools where Ignite fellows tutored reported that Ignite had a positive impact on student engagement. The Ignite Fellowship builds on Teach For America’s 30-year history to grow our impact in local communities and help fuel student potential.
Alumni Programs
Our alumni are leading classrooms and expanding education across our state. More than 400 North Carolina alumni are serving as teachers, while others are founding innovators of organizations like Urban Promise and Versademics, and leading community programs from the United Way to the Duke Energy Foundation. Through the program, alumni receive job search support, exclusive opportunities, and access to interest-based events.
