Why does Teach For America need transcripts?

Our need for official transcripts is based on a few factors:

Verification of eligibility: In order to join TFA, all corps members must have at least 2.50 GPA minimum and a completed bachelor's degree by June. Your transcripts verify that you meet these requirements.

Confirmation of completed coursework: Since your eligibility to teach in a region is based in part on your coursework, we need to confirm that you have completed all the necessary classes and credit hours to legally teach in a region.

Requirements from school districts and university partners: School districts, universities, or certification partners may have additional requirements beyond that of TFA. Some regions may need to verify your eligibility with these partners by reviewing your transcripts.
