Answers to Frequently Asked Questions The Recommendation Process

What information should I give my recommenders about the process?

When asking individuals to serve as your recommenders, you should:

  • Make sure that your recommenders are comfortable and willing to complete an online form instead of a traditional letter of recommendation.
  • Advise your recommenders of the timeline. Forms must be received before your interview day. Your recommenders will receive their online form as soon as you submit their contact info, so it's important to do this as soon as possible. If you submit your list by the deadline, your recommenders should have about one week to complete their form. It typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete it.
  • Let your recommenders know that the form asks them to answer specific questions regarding the qualities we look for.
  • While not required, we suggest that your recommenders add recommendations@teachforamerica.org to ensure the receipt of our emails, since our automatic emails are sometimes incorrectly filtered as spam messages.

Applicants can share recommender contact information after submitting an application, though they are not required prior to receiving an invitation to interview. Applicants, have questions or need help? Contact us
