Teach For America offers a one-year deferral for accepted applicants who have an extenuating circumstance preventing them from joining in 2027. Though rare, deferrals are typically granted for accepted applicants who have serious medical conditions or personal emergencies. We also sometimes grant deferrals for those who have a unique opportunity that will significantly and directly add to their value in the classroom or to working toward expanding educational opportunity.

If granted a deferral, you will have a place in the 2028 corps in your assigned region. You must be able to attend the 2028 summer training in full, which will begin in late May of 2028.
