Rhode Island Teach For America Statement on Angélica Infante-Green's Appointment as Rhode Island's Commissioner of Education

Teach For America congratulates alumna Angélica Infante-Green (New York ‘94) on her recent appointment by Governor Gina Raimondo as the State of Rhode Island’s Commissioner of Education.

Providence, R.I., March 19, 2019 Teach For America today released the following statement on the announcement of Angélica Infante-Green’s appointment as Rhode Island’s Commissioner of Education.

"Teach For America congratulates alumna Angélica Infante-Green (New York ‘94) on her recent appointment by Governor Gina Raimondo as the State of Rhode Island’s Commissioner of Education.

From her time in the classroom as a member of the New York corps to various district leadership posts, Angélica has been a tireless champion for change in pursuit of educational equity for more than two decades. Her experience in leading pre-school through 12th grade instructional support for New York City’s Department of Education – the largest school district in the nation – will undoubtedly inform her perspective as she works to take on Rhode Island’s unique and complex issues around closing the opportunity gap for children in under-resourced communities in partnership with educators, families and community organizations.

This is a historical moment for the state of Rhode Island as Angélica is the first person of color to hold this seat. We look forward to welcoming Angélica to the Ocean State and partnering closely with her as she takes on this new role this spring.”
