Since 1992, Teach For America has worked alongside our partners in the D.C. Region in to create opportunities for kids in our most underserved communities.
Since it was established over 25 years ago, Teach For America D.C. Region has introduced thousands of corps members into classrooms in D.C. and Prince George’s County, helping fuel remarkable progress for students and schools across our region. D.C. Public Schools transitioned from one of the lowest performing urban school districts into the fastest improving urban district in the country, measured by student test scores, thanks in part to leadership by Teach For America alumni.
Today, TFA corps members and alumni teachers, principals, school system leaders, and leaders in policy, advocacy, elected office, nonprofits, philanthropies, business, the law, and medicine bring about transformative change for students and our communities each day.
Over the next three years, Teach For America D.C. Region is working to:
- Build clusters of talented educators to strengthen student outcomes
- Customize teacher training to unleash leadership potential
- Mobilize our alumni community to support individual and collective leadership
