Explore personal considerations to help you decide if the Appalachia region is a good fit for you.
Our favorite things about the Appalachia region are the people and the land. Community members lovingly welcome our corps members with open arms, providing meals, housing recommendations, spare furniture, and more. When you join us, you’ll find yourself being invited to family dinners, to church, and to birthday parties.
Abundant natural resources means world-class rock climbing, hiking, and water sporting are all around you. Spend your time hiking the mountains or working with families to build a local farmer’s market or community garden. Additionally, eastern Kentucky has a great music and arts scene.
An open mind will go a long way in Appalachia, where opportunities to create and innovate are endless, and where locals are eager to support new causes that better their communities. Our corps members and alumni have established deep bonds with each other. You’ll find this is a great place to live, work, and grow in.
Depending on your placement location, cities such as Lexington, Kentucky, Huntington, West Virginia, and Knoxville, Tennessee, are as close as a one to two hour drive.
