Student Looking Up

October 26, 2017

For the past 15 years, our coalition of Teach for America leaders have been working towards One Day when ALL children in Miami-Dade will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education. Check out some of our top triumphs in 15 years, and help us sustain this impact for 15 more by donating to Teach for America – Miami-Dade on Give Miami Day, The Miami Foundation’s 24-hour giving event in South Florida,  Thursday, November 16th!

  1. Over 1,350 New Teachers to Miami Dade County Public Schools Since 2003

As a Miami-Dade County Public School partner, we are proud of the progress to no ‘F’ schools in Miami-Dade - a milestone reached in 2017. Our teachers teach in Miami-Dade’s highest need schools to ensure that this progress reaches all students.

  2. Teach For America Teachers Highlighted as MDCPS Rookie Teacher of the Year

Our teachers have consistently been celebrated for their impact in classrooms. In the 2016-17 school year, 14 of our corps members and alumni were nominated for the MDCPS Rookie Teacher of the Year award, given to teachers who have taught for 4 years or less.

  3. Over 675 Leaders - Corps Members and Alumni - for Educational Equity in Miami-Dade

Our first and second year corps members are currently teaching over 10,000 students in Miami-Dade. Our alumni network in South Florida is over 525 and growing - contributing towards educational equity from classrooms, schools, and every sector that shapes the broader systems in which schools operate.

  4. Teach For America Innovating to Mobilize Alumni Leadership

We have partnered with organizations to mobilize and support alumni leadership for educational equity. Beginning in 2014, Start Up Summer, a program in partnership with Venture Hive, gave 70 alumni leaders the opportunity to experience the entrepreneurial process and to develop innovative solutions to educational inequity in Miami-Dade.

  5. Teach For America Launching a Local Miami-Dade Institute

Miami-Dade joins just 15 other regions of our 53 Teach For America regions to launch a local Institute. Beginning in 2017, our corps member summer training is in Miami-Dade - an opportunity to provide more classrooms to high-need Miami-Dade students over the summer. This year’s Institute provided over 800 students a summer enrichment experience they would otherwise not have received. Read more here.

We couldn’t do this work without supporters like you.
