Are you a driven, energetic influencer seeking to leave your mark on campus? Nearly 200 leaders from colleges around the country learn concrete ways to expand their influence and leverage their unique leadership styles at our annual student leadership conference.

Here are three reasons why you should apply to join them at Teach For America’s Rise.

1. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Rise is a selective leadership conference for sophomores and juniors who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential. You’ll spend the weekend participating in workshops that further develop your leadership skills, since we know strong leadership is essential in long-term impact and systemic change.

Previous participants have explored topics such as personal leadership styles, how values impact you as a leader, team management, project planning and execution, and working across lines of difference. Sessions offered hands-on practice, and attendees mapped out plans to bring their training back to their roles on campus.

By attending Rise, you will gain exceptional professional development that will strengthen your leadership and influence. Since these skills are universal, don’t be surprised if you find yourself using them in other extracurricular roles, or even in your future career.

2. NETWORK WITH TOP LEADERS

At Rise, you will meet other campus leaders from across the country, as well as members from Teach For America’s powerful network of 53,000 alumni.

Previous Rise participants have heard from a panel of TFA alumni leaders who have worked in education, public policy, consulting, law, and innovation. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from and network with high-profile guest speakers, including TFA’s CEO Elisa Villanueva Beard and Mario Jovan Shaw, recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 as one of the world’s brightest social innovators, who seeks to bring about change and equal opportunity for boys and male educators of color. Rise 2019 will provide additional opportunities to meet inspiring changeagents.

3. DISCOVER A NEW CITY

While you will delve into professional development and networking during the day, you will also have the opportunity to enjoy during your free time. With Teach For America covering expenses, including travel, meals, and lodging, this is your chance to explore.

In 2018, Rise took place in Chicago, an exciting backdrop to a weekend of leadership development. Participants were able to savor a deep dish pizza. Take pictures in front of Cloud Gate, the famous bean-shaped sculpture in Millenium Park. Enjoy the stunning views of Chicago’s skyline.

However you decide to spend your downtime, TFA will provide sightseeing suggestions and dinner reservations to ensure you make the most of your Rise weekend.
