Greater Baton Rouge Teach For America Partners With Capital Area United Way in Donaldsonville Community

Teach For America South Louisiana received a $15,000 grant from Capital Area United Way to support teacher talent and retention in the Donaldsonville community.

Baton Rouge, La. - Teach For America South Louisiana received a $15,000 grant from Capital Area United Way to support teacher talent and retention in the Donaldsonville community of Ascension Parish. This funding is a portion of Capital Area United Way's $100,188 investment in partnerships with ten nonprofit organizations serving Ascension Parish.

"Over the past decade, the Donaldsonville community has made strong progress in improving academic outcomes for students," said Laura Vinsant, Executive Director of Teach For America South Louisiana. "Teach For America is proud to have partnered with the Ascension Parish School Board for the past 8 years to secure diverse, high-quality teacher talent for Donaldsonville schools, supporting the district’s work to recruit and retain educators. We’re excited to now partner with the Capital Area United Way in strengthening this effort, which supports Teach For America corps member and alumni teachers working to expand academic opportunities for Donaldsonville students and families."

Currently, there are more than 20 Teach For America leaders partnering with schools in the Donaldsonville community. The project supports professional development events, financial assistance to offset transportation costs and a service project in the community.
