About Us

About Us

Since 2011, Teach For America has contributed to the push for educational equity in Washington State. Our region has one of the fastest growing economies in the U.S., contrasted by a public education system ranked 31st in the country. While potential is evenly distributed across lines of race and class, access to opportunity is not, particularly for those in marginalized communities.

Creating enduring change in education requires the dedication and vision of exceptional leaders who are undeterred by the challenges facing our education system and intimately understand their local context. Alongside our passionate, talented alumni and corps members, we know we can make a difference for kids in Washington.

Where our corps members have taught:

  • 50% taught in district schools in southern King County
  • 20% taught in charter schools in southern King County
  • 25% taught in district schools in Yakima Valley
  • 5% taught in schools in more remote communities

Dr. Randolph E. Ward was hired as the Executive Director of Teach For America in October 2018. At TFA San Diego, he has led the team in a strategic shift to accelerate the impact of the organization. He also consults with the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE) as a systems coach for school districts in distress. Dr. Ward retired as the San Diego County Superintendent of Schools in November 2016, after having served since August 2006. At the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE), Dr. Ward led the organization in completing its first formal Strategic Plan. As part of that planning process, he and the SDCOE staff worked with educational and community leaders throughout the county to craft the specific elements of the new Strategic Plan. Areas of emphasis included digital literacy, leadership development, closing the achievement gap, and ensuring global workplace readiness for all students.
