Dr. Tony Alleyne (Charlotte '05) is the Founder and Executive Director of the Delaware College Scholars (DCS) program, a Black-created, Black-owned, and Black-led nonprofit focused on ensuring first generation public high school students are prepared for and can succeed in competitive four-year colleges. A lifelong educator, Dr. Alleyne is a proud first-generation son of Brooklyn, New York. 

Dr. Alleyne earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology and African American History from Wesleyan University, his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Columbia University’s Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership in 2010, his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education in 2016 and complete the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders. 

Before founding DCS, Dr. Alleyne served in various senior leadership roles at St. Andrew’s School, including Senior Associate Director of Admission, Associate Director of College Counseling, Executive Director of the school’s Project SSOAR study skills program, history teacher and coach. Previous to his time at St. Andrew’s School, Dr. Alleyne was Dean of Student Advisement at New Jersey SEEDS, Corp Member Advisor at Teach for America’s Philadelphia Institute and a Teach for America Corp Member in Charlotte, NC. 

In addition to serving as ED at DCS, Dr. Alleyne currently serves on the Johns Hopkins University College Access Board, where he was selected as one of 10-12 leaders from NGOs across the nation to advise the university’s admissions and enrollment of how to better recruit and assist students as well as Prep for Prep’s Alumni Board, where he was elected to represent over 30 years of the organization’s alumni in board meetings and within the Prep for Prep Community. He recently also served as a committee member on the State of Delaware’s Career and Trade Education (CTE) Subcommittee. 

Dr. Alleyne has recently received many accolades including, but not limited to, Teacher for America Delaware’s Jack Markell Leadership Award, Columbia University Teacher’s College Early Career Award, University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education’s Early Career Award of Merit, the Delaware Business Times’ 40 Under 40 distinction and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools – MLK Jr, Middle School New Teacher of the Year award.
