School Systems Leaders

School Systems Leadership

Thousands of Teach For America alumni already serve as leaders in classrooms and schools, and an increasing number are taking on leadership at the school systems level. They have the potential to dramatically improve academic outcomes for students across the country. But we need many more courageous leaders to serve at the highest levels of leadership in public school systems because:

  • District turnover is high and diversity is low: In a 2010 survey of superintendents, just 51% of respondents said they planned to remain in their role in 2015. In the same survey, just 6% identified themselves as people of color.*

  • Teach For America alumni are in high demand for these roles: Every week, Teach For America receives requests for help in filling senior leadership roles within school systems in cities and states across the country. We expect this demand to continue growing.

Our School Systems Talent Matching team works to facilitate connections between alumni and these crucial leadership opportunities.
