About Us
For more than 20 years, Teach For America Nevada has partnered with students, families, educators, and communities to expand educational opportunities across our state. Today, our network of more than 800 alumni is helping shape Nevada’s future as teachers, school and systems leaders, nonprofit founders, policymakers, and advocates.

Our work is grounded in the communities we serve and strengthened by Teach For America’s nationwide network of nearly 70,000 alumni. Together, we’re working toward an ambitious goal: doubling third-grade literacy in Clark County by 2030. We know that reading proficiently by the end of third grade is one of the strongest predictors of long-term success, and achieving that goal will require schools, families, community organizations, businesses, and civic leaders working together.
That work builds on more than two decades of leadership development and community partnership. Teach For America Nevada develops leaders who make an immediate impact in classrooms while building the skills, relationships, and commitment to create lasting change throughout their careers. Whether they’re teaching in classrooms, leading schools, shaping education policy, or strengthening communities, our corps members and alumni are helping ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.

Local Initiatives
Teach For America Nevada is helping lead a community-wide effort to double third-grade literacy in Clark County by 2030. To reach that goal, we’ve brought together a growing coalition of nonprofits, municipalities, government entities, businesses, educators, and community partners committed to improving early literacy across Southern Nevada.
Together, the coalition launched Read With Me NV, a public awareness initiative that connects families with practical tools and resources to support reading at home while building broader community understanding of the role we all play in helping children become strong readers.

Emily Bassier
TFA Nevada 2004
Principal, Equipo Academy
Emily Bassier spent a decade in the classroom before stepping into school leadership, first as Dean and now as Principal of Equipo Academy. Under her leadership, Equipo has become a model for educational excellence and opportunity, earning the distinction of being the first 5-Star high school in East Las Vegas. The school has achieved a 100% graduation rate, with every student earning acceptance to college—an achievement rooted in its holistic, student-centered approach.
Ben Nguyen

Teacher, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Sunrise Mountain High School
Ben Nguyen is a veteran educator at Sunrise Mountain High School, where he has spent the past 11 years teaching robotics and inspiring students to envision bold futures. A first-generation immigrant from Vietnam, Ben draws from his own journey to empower students from underrepresented backgrounds, helping them see their potential and purpose. He was awarded the Milken Educator Award and won the Big Idea Challenge for his “Platform for the Future”—a web portal connecting students to job training and mentorship opportunities.
Erica Mosca

Assemblymember, Nevada State Legislature
Assemblymember Erica Mosca is a lifelong educator, nonprofit founder, and the first Filipina elected to the Nevada State Assembly. A first-generation college graduate, Erica began her career as a Teach For America corps member, teaching fifth grade in East Las Vegas. This experience inspired her lifelong commitment to expanding opportunity for Nevada’s students.
In 2012, she founded Leaders in Training (LIT), a nonprofit that helps first-generation students prepare for college, earn their degrees, and become leaders in their communities. Today, as the representative for Assembly District 14, Erica brings the perspective of an educator to the Legislature, advancing policies that strengthen education, support students and families, and help Nevada’s communities thrive.

Corps members live throughout the Las Vegas Valley, choosing neighborhoods that fit their lifestyles and are convenient to their schools. Many live near their placement schools in North Las Vegas, East Las Vegas, or downtown, while others commute from Henderson, Summerlin, and surrounding communities.
Living here means becoming part of a region that is growing, diverse, and deeply invested in its future. Beyond the iconic Las Vegas Strip, you’ll find vibrant neighborhoods, local restaurants, parks, arts and cultural events, and a strong network of educators, alumni, and community leaders working together to expand opportunities for students. Throughout the year, corps members gather for community events, professional learning, and informal meetups that often grow into lasting friendships.
Southern Nevada also offers easy access to the outdoors. Explore the red sandstone cliffs of Red Rock Canyon, escape to the cooler temperatures of Mount Charleston, or spend weekends hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, or skiing. Whether you’re looking for adventure, great food, live entertainment, or a welcoming community to call home, Las Vegas offers a lifestyle that’s both dynamic and connected.
