Ella Han is a 2016 corps member teaching at Morningside Middle School in Fort Worth ISD. She shares her motivation for joining Teach For America and her plans for continuing to make an impact in the coming year.

Why did you choose to join TFA?

I moved to the U.S. from Beijing when I was 14 years old. As a first-generation immigrant and an educator, I could relate to the cultural, language and social barriers that my students also face. My students and the community remind me of the importance of the fight for educational equity every day and inspire me to solve complex and deeply-rooted problems in the education system.

What is your pathway to One Day?

My next step is to attend graduate school in public policy with a concentration in education policy. I will focus on developing data-driven education policies to improve learning outcomes for all children.
