This month, during Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrated the contributions of our Latinx corps members and alumni. We could not serve our community effectively without their talent and leadership! Jorge Alvarado, 2015 Corps Member

"Believing in my kids without a doubt in my mind is a core factor in their success. I know what it's like to feel like you don't belong somewhere. As one of my students simply put as to why they deserve a chance, 'We're human too.'"

Rosemary Sandoval, 2015 Corps Member

"Being a Latino Educator means I have the huge responsibility to be an ally to my "minority" students... As a Latina teacher, I have found that a lot of students feel connected to me. They speak to me in Spanish, the students that don’t understand English seek me for comfort. Sometimes a familiar face is all they need to see. I make it my mission to remind them that the world is tough sometimes but we have the power to change it if we educate ourselves and those around us. This year I began teaching a Spanish Explorations class and I love it. I think I am going to have a great time teaching them conversation Spanish while educating students from other backgrounds what it is like to come from a Latin American Country."
