Phoenix Fundación MAPFRE Partners with Teach For America Phoenix to Support Local Schools

Community foundation contributes $53,000 for teacher development and educational excellence

In collaboration with Teach For America Phoenix, Fundación MAPFRE has contributed $53,000 to support teacher professional development and local educational needs. As part of the partnership, MAPFRE leaders recently delivered supply boxes filled with instructional tools and classroom materials to Guerrero Elementary School to help students and teachers during the school year.

“We are so grateful for champions like Teach For America and Fundación MAPFRE,” said Brian Minarcik, principal of Guerrero Elementary School. “Having hired more than 15 Teach For America corps members and alumni, I know that these are promising leaders who go above and beyond for our students, and support them in achieving at the highest levels.”

During the 2019-2020 school year, MAPFRE employees will visit Guerrero Elementary multiple times to donate supplies and volunteer their time and professional expertise.

“Our volunteers really enjoy visiting the classrooms, speaking to the students and hearing about their dreams and ambitions,” said Miguel Coello, senior vice president, Western Region, MAPFRE Insurance. “We are proud to partner with Teach for America Phoenix to help every student get the education they deserve and reach their goals.”

“Placing corps members at Guerrero Elementary since 2012, Teach For America Phoenix understands the value of lasting partnerships and is appreciative of MAPFRE’s continued commitment to quality education,” said Katie Tennessen Hooten, executive director of Teach For America Phoenix. “Together, we can continue to create a community that promotes educational equity for all students here in Arizona.”

In addition to Arizona, Fundación MAPFRE also supports Teach For America programs in California and Massachusetts.
