Since 2011, Teach For America Delaware has worked to ensure students across the state have access to leaders who empower them to learn, lead, and thrive. Thousands of children have been impacted by our network of transformational leaders. Working in partnership with community and education ecosystems, legislators, and families, we are committed to making educational excellence a reality for all Delaware students.
In Delaware, we are focused on attracting exceptional individuals to teach and lead while implementing new ways of creating value to our school and community partners through: Teacher recruitment, training, and retention strategies, STEM-focused teacher placement and leadership development, student-centered leadership development experiences, and alumni impact.
The Delaware region currently partners with the Christina School District in Wilmington, as well as EastSide Charter School and Thomas Edison Charter School. Teach For America Delaware alumni work tirelessly across industries to deepen their impact for children throughout Delaware. Our state alumni network extends from Wilmington to Seaford and includes leaders in K-12 education systems, higher education, corporations, nonprofits, government, and social entrepreneurship.
Our small but mighty state has something for everyone without the high cost of living that neighboring states may have. Wilmington is the center of arts and culture, with theater, music and food festivals throughout the year. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, also provides an equally vibrant restaurant scene. If outdoor experiences are more of your vibe, Delaware is home to some of the best beaches on the east coast, including Bethany Beach, which is in the top 20 beaches in the country and 17 state parks.

“TFA Delaware’s commitment to culturally responsive teaching has shaped the core values of humility, flexibility, and respect which ground my classroom space.”
Near the Sussex County hometown of a civil rights giant, a new school will honor his legacy.

Our focus is supporting school leadership in improving academic excellence and equity in communities across our nation. Our passionate, rigorously trained, systems change leaders work alongside school partners and their staff to advance the academic and personal growth of students in the classroom, and beyond. You can see facts about who we are and what we do when you download this overview about us.
As a leadership development program, we seek out those who possess the perspectives and qualifications necessary to become great teachers – and foster their skills to become lifelong leaders for educational excellence and equity.
Participants in our teaching program commit to teach at least two years in a region where we work. For over three decades our corps members have been placed with the best interests of each region, district, school, and community in mind – a practice that continues today.
Many corps members decide to continue their time in the classroom beyond their two-year commitment – often staying within their placement district or region. Others pursue education-focused careers or leadership positions, continuing to work for the betterment of future generations within their communities.
Our national tutoring program, Ignite, builds on our experience in school partnerships by recruiting and developing leaders who join classrooms virtually to accelerate and foster student learning, belonging, and growth through small group tutoring sessions.
Our diverse network of alumni leaders are passionate about advancing and advocating educational equity in the United States. Their work underpins efforts to ensure opportunities for every learner by illuminating new paths in education, and strengthening, rebuilding, and reimagining schools in disadvantaged and low-income communities.
To further the commitment of our corps members, Ignite fellows, and alumni – and to support the needs of our school partners – TFA provides timely, actionable, and meaningful support through a comprehensive set of professional development tools and resources.
By supplementing development programs already provided at our partner schools, we can ensure every one of our diverse leaders has access to an individualized support system designed to meet the unique needs of school leadership, the student body, their families, and the community. These resources include:
Direct coaching through a Managing Director, Leadership Development (MD, LD) who co-creates and roadmaps individual learning plans as well as provides 1:1 observation, feedback, and guidance to corps members and their school leaders.
Virtual and in-person instructional development centered on pedagogy, content, and execution. This includes gaining relevant teaching knowledge and skills; local community history and context; living a commitment to DEI; and self-reflection.
Certification partnerships opportunities that provide access to evening and weekend courses to supplement TFA direct support; and for any corps members who need to meet specific teaching requirements within their community, region, or state. Read more about how we prepare leaders for success in education.
Professional toolkits through a partnership with BetterLesson, giving educators and district personnel access to ways to connect and share high-quality lesson plans, partake in workshops, 1:1 coaching, and more to support their efforts working with the next generation of students both in school and out.
Watch what educators say about BetterLesson coaching.
