Youth from across the nation submitted films using the pandemic as a portal through which to see the world.

To elevate the topics that are on young people’s minds—which range from mental health to climate change—and help imagine a future informed by and decided with youth, One Day Studio put out a call for youth-created work. We received videos from organizations that support youth filmmaking across the country. All of these films were produced and filmed by young people ranging from ages 14-26. Each piece offers an opportunity to consider how the future might be shaped by and with the youth who will be the next generation of leaders.

Youth Reinventors from The Reinvention Lab at Teach For America then selected and arranged a collection of these videos to be edited into a 30-minute ensemble, titled “Through the Portal”

“Through the Portal” highlights the journey young people traverse through development and the lessons learned. The order highlights the cycle of dreaming and the challenges that youth overcome to achieve their goal of a reformed society. The arc illustrates the strong potential of young people to change the world through ideas, kindness, empathy, and understanding of others." -The Reinventors
