Teach For America Miami-Dade

Since 2003, Teach For America has worked alongside our partners in Miami-Dade in to create opportunities for students in our most underserved communities.

Teach For America Miami-Dade has worked in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) for the past 15 years to expand educational opportunity for all children. We find, develop, and support a diverse corps of outstanding leaders who make an initial two-year commitment to teach in the highest-need schools. Informed and inspired, many alumni continue to teach, and others lead in different sectors in order to make a lifelong commitment to educational equity.

Since our partnership with M-DCPS began in 2003, Teach For America has provided 1,430 teachers to impact over 200,000 students in Miami-Dade. We have witnessed extraordinary academic growth in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. In 2003, the district held a 59 percent graduation rate. In the 2017-18 school year, for the first time in history, M-DCPS celebrated an 82 percent high school graduation rate, an “A” school district rating (with no F-rated traditional schools), and the achievement of most improved and highest performing district in the state. We are proud to be part of this milestone.

“I gained my footing in this fight for educational equity during my time at North Miami Middle. Working alongside students, community members, TFA staff, and leadership provided me with the mentors and peers I needed to thrive in this work.”
