Weekly Tie-Up: Independence Day!

Watch the Weekly Tie-Up, a one-minute video recap of the latest events around the Teach For America community! This week, we introduce you to an Educator of the Year, the new 2015 Miss Nevada, and what you can do to help stop the serious threat to AmeriCorps funding.

Friday, July 3, 2015

We’re wrapping up a short (exciting!) week for a much-anticipated long (exciting!!) weekend. This week, we’re throwing up some love to the GLSEN Educator of the Year, Desiree Raught (D.C. Region ’07), who wrote a powerful piece about her eight years in the classroom. Speaking of award-winners, the new 2015 Miss Nevada, Katherine Kelley, is about to enter her second year as a high school teacher in Las Vegas Valley. How fancy is that? So fancy.

While we’re celebrating the hard work of Desiree and Katherine, I want to make sure that a more pressing issue is on your radar: Read about the serious threat to AmeriCorps funding, how that might impact national service on a broader scale, and what you can do to help.

I hope your weekend is filled with fun, relaxation, and food—lots and lots of food.
