In late September, with the generous support of The Mind Trust and Glick Philanthropies, we welcomed over 30 recruits from HBCUs across the country and students from Midwest colleges to Indianapolis. The recruits spent the weekend learning about the impact they could have on education in the Circle City. From school visits to community events, it was an inspiring experience filled with meaningful connections and a shared passion for shaping the future of education.

Weekend Highlights

We kicked off Friday with visits to local schools: The Path School, Sankofa School of Success, and ROOTED schools. During the site visits, recruits engaged directly with students, teachers, and school leaders and witnessed firsthand what it’s like to serve as a corps member in our region. Myesha Stweart, a recruit from Jackson State University, shared, “...I loved learning about the different types of schools. Although there were different types of school systems, they all had the same goal, which was to make sure all students had equal opportunities when it came to learning."

We started Saturday with a visit to Indy 5 Iron Golf, where attendees connected with one another and TFA Indianapolis staff and alumni. Later, we spent the afternoon at the Circle City Classic football game, a staple in Indianapolis, highlighting the importance of community, culture, and representation.

Many recruits left the weekend inspired and ready to take the next steps toward joining TFA Indianapolis. Sunday, we offered office hours, providing recruits with dedicated time and support to begin their corps member application process. We asked recruits to share what most excited them about joining TFA Indianapolis as a corps member, and Tyunna Ansley, a student at Central State, shared, “I enjoyed the community. I felt very welcomed and it made me want to learn more about the Teacher Pipeline Initiative with hopes of possibly moving forward with the program.”

We’re incredibly grateful to our partners for making this weekend a reality. The energy of the recruits who visited left us feeling inspired and optimistic about the future of education in our city. We look forward to creating more opportunities like this to continue to attract a diverse network of leaders to serve in Indianapolis schools.

Please consider making a gift to support our recruitment efforts. Every bit of support brings us closer to our goal of ensuring that all students have access to the quality education and talented educators they deserve.
