What are you most looking forward to as a new teacher?

When it comes to teaching with Teach for America, I am most excited about the mentorship and development opportunities that the organization provides, that can allow me to become the best teacher I can be. I think the wealth of resources that Teach for America provides can allow me to improve myself within the classroom, and also allow me to understand the policies and decisions made on a large scale, that affects students' education.

When it comes to improving education for students in urban areas, there are issues on the ground that need to be tackled, as well as issues on a higher level. I believe that Teach for America can provide me with the training to help reform education in a comprehensive manner that can improve the educational experience for many students.

“I do not believe that true social justice can be achieved until all children receive an equal opportunity to sound education.”

In your opinion, what makes a good teacher?

To me, a good teacher is holistic—meaning they are able to visualize student achievement while also understanding barriers to this goal. A good teacher does not just prepare students to get through one year; rather he/she equips students with as many tools as possible to succeed twenty years down the road, while also maintaining a high level of compassion and understanding.

A good teacher teaches his/her subject in a way that allows students to understand the material in a comprehensive manner, and in a manner that transcends the material from the classroom to allow them to move on to a successful educational journey.
