While teaching 9th grade science at West Charlotte High School, Mark Johnson realized that good education policy would be just as important as good teachers in the classroom to put our schools on track to provide every student with the opportunity to attain an excellent education.
 
After attending law school at UNC, Mark settled in Winston-Salem, where his community involvement lead to him being elected as an at- large member on the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education. 
 
Superintendent Johnson was elected to his current post in 2016 after his service as a member of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education and was legal counsel at Inmar, an international technology company based in Winston-Salem, NC. Having served as a teacher, an education leader, and as a father of a young daughter soon to start school, improving education in North Carolina is a personal mission for Johnson.
