Jeremy Beard currently works as a Head of Schools for YES Prep Public Schools. He previously worked as the National Director of Programs for Blueprint Schools Network, working to help school districts across the nation turnaround their lowest performing schools. Beard also helped lead the Apollo 20 School Project as a School Improvement Officer in Houston Independent School District, working to turnaround low performing secondary schools. Previously, he served in the Rio Grande Valley as principal of IDEA College Preparatory, an IB school in Donna, Texas. IDEA College Preparatory is one of the few in the world that expects 100% of its low-income, minority population to go through the rigorous Diploma Years Program, and it was ranked as high as #13 out of 21,000 High Schools in the United States by U.S. World & News.
In 2009, Beard received the Peter Jennings Award for Civic Leadership. He began his career with Teach For America as a 1995 Los Angeles corps member teaching ESL and special education in Long Beach, California. Beard then served as the Program Director for Teach For America–Baltimore. He holds a B.A. in English and African-American Studies from the University of Maryland and a M.Ed. in Organizational Leadership from Columbia Teachers College.
