In January 2012, Commissioner Mitchell Chester appointed Jeffrey C. Riley the Superintendent and Receiver of the Lawrence Public Schools. A veteran educator with nearly two decades of experience in school and district leadership, Jeff started his career as a corps member in Baltimore, teaching special education. As the principal of the Edwards Middle School in Boston, Jeff oversaw a school turnaround effort that transformed the Edwards into the city’s highest performing middle school.

Before assuming the Receivership in Lawrence, Jeff served as Director of the High Tech Academy at Madison Park Technical-Vocational High School, Academic Superintendent for Middle and K – 8 Schools, and Chief Innovation Officer of the Boston Public Schools. He holds a B.A. in philosophy from Pomona College, an M.A. in counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and an M.A. in school administration, planning, and social policy from Harvard University.
