When your two-year commitment concludes, Teach For America continues to provide opportunities, events, resources, and leadership development. You’ll be supported in your goals and in the pursuit of our shared mission, no matter what career path you choose.
Programs for Alumni
Whether you choose to stay in education after the corps or pursue a different career path, you’ll have access to several TFA programs and opportunities.
Today, 13,500 alumni are full-time teachers. The impact of their commitment to students and communities can never be overstated.
Among the opportunities for alumni teachers are partnerships with schools of education that offer special benefits, regional mentorship opportunities, practical advice on transferring teaching credentials, and an ever-expanding library of virtual learning modules. Alumni teachers can also apply for the annual Sue Lehmann Excellence in Teacher Leadership Award to further your work leading change inside and outside of the classroom.
You can make an impact as a school leader after the corps. Alumni can access an extensive list of principal prep programs to build your readiness for school leadership roles.
We also host the Rural School Leadership Academy to develop effective school leaders for rural areas and the Schools to Learn From program to highlight strong schools and provide learning opportunities.
School Systems Leadership
There is incredible demand to fill senior leadership roles within school systems in cities and states across the country. Our School Systems Talent Matching program works to facilitate connections between TFA alumni ready to take on higher level roles and these crucial leadership opportunities.
For alumni interested in policy, advocacy, or organizing work, our partner organization, Leadership for Educational Equity, offers extensive support and programming, enabling you to get involved civically and politically.
Additionally, our Capitol Hill Fellows Program offers alumni a one-year, full-time, paid position in a congressional office.
And each year the Peter Jennings Award for Civic Leadership is presented to an outstanding alumnus whose work has led to significant progress toward educational equity and excellence.
We motivate and support alumni and corps members to grow their ideas and innovations by providing one-on-one and group-based professional development and coaching opportunities, as well as accelerating the impact of alumni and corps member ventures through the Social Innovation Award.
Networking and Career Support
You’ll be able to connect to and communicate with the TFA community when your corps commitment begins. TFA Connect BETA is an online community where you can search for career opportunities and find employers seeking your talent and perspective. You can search the network, build connections, and ask and answer discussion questions. Find out what else TFA Connect BETA has to offer.
“TFA is set up to help you succeed. You will meet people who believe in you and who will support you. TFA saw my potential before I saw it in myself, and inspired me to pursue this path.”
Grad School and Employer Partners
Expand your access to high-impact opportunities to continue your influence and accelerate your leadership trajectory.
Teach For America is connected with hundreds of graduate schools and employers across the country who provide corps members and alumni with special benefits, such as deferrals and fee waivers, or who are seeking to hire TFA talent. These partners value the skills, commitment, and perspective you’ll develop in the corps. See our Grad School and Employer Partners.
