Where Corps Members Teach

St. Louis corps members teach in four school districts and several city charter schools in neighborhoods like the Ville and Walnut Park These placements range from North County, such as the Hazelwood and Normandy School Districts, and also more central locations such as Riverview Gardens and St. Louis Public Schools.

The city is easy to navigate and most areas are accessible within twenty minutes by car. Many St. Louis corps members opt to share apartments with other corps members in order to save on rent and build a support system outside the classroom. Two popular spots for corps members are Tower Grove, Soulard (the historic French district) and Benton Park, on the south side of the city.

Get to Know Compton-Drew Middle School

Compton-Drew, located on the southeastern edge of historic Forest Park, is a public middle school in St. Louis. One third of Compton-Drew's teaching staff is made up of Teach For America corps members and alumni. They are currently one of the top-performing middle schools in the city and met the federal AYP standards last year.  Teach For America staff in the region consider it a model of what happens when a great school leader – who is committed to making good decisions for kids and for teachers – manages great people who are able to carry out the educational mission.
