Teach For America Rio Grande Valley Region is so grateful for our existing supporters. All gifts help our effort to recruit, select, train and support corps members and alumni.

Partner Spotlight

The Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation is a lead investor in our region. Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. was the grandson of Richard King, the founder of the King Ranch in South Texas, which covers nearly 900,000 acres across six South Texas counties. Since 1950, the Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation has funded countless projects in Texas and across the country. It was created as a general-purpose foundation to drive biomedical research, veterinary science, and wildlife research and preservation programs across the nation, with support also directed towards community organizations, higher education, the arts and the humanities in South Texas. Teach For America was awarded with a multi-year grant from the Foundation in 2009, with a large portion directed toward developing the Rio Grande Valley region over a three year period. This partnership has greatly enhanced our ability to transform the educational landscape of South Texas.

Event Spotlight

In April, 2012, over 100 students, parents, administrators, and family members from across the Rio Grande Valley joined together for the first-ever Student Leadership Summit. Facilitated by our corps members, participants worked collaboratively to understand and develop their personal, group, and school level leadership, creating a strong voice of self advocacy from Roma to Brownsville. The Student Leadership Series will expand to four summits throughout the 2012-13 school year.
