Corps members teach in traditional and charter public schools in the Providence, the state’s largest city; Newport, located on an island in the southeastern corner of the state; Central Falls and Cumberland. Charter placements include Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, Segue Institute for Learning, and Blackstone Valley Prep.
Get to Know Blackstone Valley Prep
Serving students from Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, and Pawtucket, Blackstone Valley Prep is an elementary school dedicated to diversity, high expectations and college-readiness. The school was founded by Jeremy Chiappetta (New York ’95) with leadership from Jennifer LoPiccolo (Eastern North Carolina ’97) and Colleen Colarusso (Miami-Dade ’06) and includes several corps members on its teaching staff.
In the 2009-2010 school year, Blackstone Valley Prep kindergartners – 82% of whom entered school behind grade level in literacy – gained an average of two years in both reading and math, exceeding their grade level expectations and typifying the gains required to fully close the achievement gap.
