Where Corps Members Teach

Corps members in the Metro Atlanta region teach in traditional public schools, charter public schools, and community-based organizations in the city proper, and also in the nearby counties of Clayton, Gwinnett, Fulton, DeKalb and Cobb. They currently lead more than 25,000 students from these areas combined.  Approximately 40% of corps members teach elementary education, 40% teach secondary education, and 20% teach special education. Ninety percent of corps members teach at a school with at least one other corps member or alumnus, helping foster a strong, collaborative network of support.

Get to Know South Atlanta School for Law and Social Justice

Peter McKnight (Metro-Atlanta 02) is the founding principal at LSJ, which began as a small learning academy in his placement school. Forty percent of the teachers are corps members or Teach For America alumni. In 2009, over 96% of students qualified for free or reduced lunch and 85% of ninth graders were reading below grade level.

At the end of 2009-10, students outperformed the district average in math, science, social studies, and writing. Mock Trial team members won best attorney awards in the regional competition. The senior class has a 100% college acceptance rate, and collectively, they earned $1.6 million in scholarships.
