Neighborhood Highlight

Jamaica Plain is one of the liveliest and most diverse neighborhoods in Boston, attracting a rich mix of artists and professionals, singles, families, and more dogs than you can shake a stick at. The neighborhood is home to vibrant Dominican and Cuban American communities and is known for its range of restaurants and bars, from cheap holes-in-the-wall and dives to some of the city's newest and hippest spots.

Jamaica Plain's location also puts it in close proximity to the richness of the Boston experience—the Arnold Arboretum and Franklin Park to the south; Roxbury, where many corps members teach, to the east; and the bars and restaurants of Brookline, the South End, and the Fenway neighborhood to the north. The Orange Line T and many buses connect JP to even more of the city, including the Massachusetts regional office, just a short 35-minute ride away.

Teach For America - Massachusetts is centered around Boston, a diverse and exciting international city and the largest city in New England. Famous for its place in American history, world-class universities and cultural institutions, New England seafood, and, of course, the Red Sox, Boston truly has something for everyone. With over a dozen unique and interesting neighborhoods to choose from, we can guarantee that every corps member will find a home in the region that is comfortable, affordable, and suits their personal style.

Massachusetts corps members teach in traditional and charter public schools in Boston neighborhoods like Roxbury, South Boston, Dorchester, East Boston, and Hyde Park, as well as in the nearby cities of Chelsea, Revere, Fall River, and Lawrence, a small former industrial city near the New Hampshire border. Wherever possible, we work to cluster corps members in schools to maximize their impact on students.

When they're not in the classroom, Greater Boston corps members enjoy visiting the area's many historical sites and museums, shopping and dining in the city’s numerous diverse neighborhoods, catching a game at Fenway Park, and getting away for the weekend to relax on the beaches of Cape Cod.
