Get to Know Endeavor College Prep Middle School

In East L.A., Endeavor College Prep (ECP) is a charter middle school founded in 2009 by Michelle Jasso, a ’99 Baltimore alumnae. More than 90% of ECP’s students are Latino, 80% will be the first in their families to graduate from college, and 93% qualify for free and reduced lunch. Michelle’s staff is currently 66% Teach For America corps members and alumni.

The school's staff, two-thirds of whom are Teach For America corps members and alumni, are working together to begin a transformation at ECP.  In year one, fourth graders moved from the 13th to 38th percentile, and fifth graders moved from the 25th to the 40th on the nationally-normed Stanford 10 test.  This year, all sixth grade students read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and compared the social structures of pre-Civil War South with the Roman Empire. To practice choosing classes in college, students selected arts electives such as collage, origami, digital photography, and guitar.
