Where Corps Members Teach

Corps members teach in more than 30 traditional and charter public schools across Indianapolis and in surrounding townships.  Most of our corps members find themselves teaching across the hall from fellow corps members and alumni, which helps create a close, collaborative Teach For America community in the city.

Get to Know KIPP Indianapolis College Prep

KIPP Indianapolis is a middle school located in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood of the city. The school, whose mission is to adequately prepare every student for college, is led by two Teach For America alumni – principal Emily Pelino (Eastern North Carolina ’03) and assistant principal Aleesia Johnson (Greater Newark ‘02).  Corps members and alumni make up over 80% of staff and the school is in the middle of a turnaround effort that is proving that low-income students can overcome the challenges of poverty.  Fifth-grade social studies teacher Jason Schall (Indianapolis ’10) led 61% of his students to pass the statewide assessment test this year, whereas just 23% of students passed last year.
