Neighborhood Highlight

A few miles north of downtown Indianapolis, Broad Ripple is one of the city's designated cultural districts and home to many of its young residents. Nearby Butler University ensures the neighborhood is well-stocked with affordable housing options and reasonably priced restaurants, bars, and shops. Known as a diverse and progressive community, Broad Ripple's energy and character attract families, artists, and many other Indianapolites along with the college students and young professionals the area is known for. Cyclists, runners, and anyone who enjoys a scenic stroll will love the 16.7 mile Manon Trail, a popular rail trail utilized daily by more than 4,000 people.

Indianapolis (also known as “Indy”) is in the midst of an exciting city-wide revitalization.

Corps members in Indianapolis enjoy access to a wide variety of entertainment, including unique festivals, beautiful parks, more than 250 restaurants, and numerous sporting events.

Downtown Indianapolis is home to Canal Walk, which offers beautiful scenery near some of the city’s most popular cultural institutions. Art enthusiasts will appreciate Massachusetts Avenue, also known as “Indy’s answer to SoHo,” which boasts an array of art galleries, theaters, restaurants, and nightlife. Music lovers will enjoy spots like the Slippery Noodle Inn, considered one of the city’s top live music venues. Sports fans can immerse themselves in the Colts, the Pacers, and the Indy 500.

Corps members teach in more than 30 traditional and charter public schools throughout Indianapolis and in surrounding townships. Many find themselves teaching across the hall from fellow corps members and alumni, which helps create a close, collaborative Teach For America community in the city.
