Teach For America Placement Schools
Where Corps Members Teach
Teach For America • Greater New Orleans corps members teach in traditional and charter public schools across the Greater New Orleans region and the Louisiana Delta. These schools are spread throughout Orleans Parish, St. Bernard Parish, Jefferson Parish, St. James Parish, St. John Parish, Plaquemines Parish, Madison Parish, and East Carroll Parish. The six southeast Louisiana parishes cover the area directly in New Orleans city proper all the way to 60 miles outside the city and are comprised of diverse urban, rural, and suburban neighborhoods and communities. We opened a satellite site in the Louisiana Delta starting in the fall of 2010. Currently, teachers in the Delta live and work in two parishes. These parishes are approximately 4.5 hours from New Orleans, about 30 miles from each other, and within one hour of corps members in the Mississippi Delta region.
Get to Know KIPP New Orleans Leadership Academy
KIPP New Orleans is the highest performing, open-enrollment public charter school network in the Recovery School District. Led by Rhonda Aluise (Houston ’92), five of the network’s schools are run by Teach For America alumni and more than 60% of the teaching force are corps members or alumni. Our alumni and corps members are placed in leadership roles at all levels, including Jared Lamb (Greater New Orleans ’03) serving as founding principal at KIPP New Orleans Leadership Academy alongside assistant principal Jonny Bartlett (Greater New Orleans ’05). The progress will continue with two new alumni-run KIPP primary schools slated to open in the fall of 2011.
