Leading Insurance Provider and Teach For America Partner to Support Student Success

Miami, Fl. Sept. 6, 2012— Local State Farm Insurance agents and employees rallied together on August 15th to donate more than $10,000 in school supplies to 300 Teach For America corps members who will be teaching in under-resourced Miami-Dade County schools this fall. The donation will provide 21,000 students in the region with basic school supplies to start the year ready for success.
“Equipping our students with the right tools for learning helps set them on a path to year-long success. This generous gift from State Farm will support thousands of students throughout the school year,” said Rebecca Fishman-Lipsey, Executive Director of Teach for America Miami-Dade. “We are grateful for State Farm’s continued generosity and their support of excellence in teaching and learning.”
State Farm agents and employees participated in the distribution event, passing out individual school supply care packages to more than 300 teachers. State Farm additionally donated $50,000 to Teach For America in order to help recruit, train and support Teach For America’s corps members in the classroom over their two-year commitment. Funds also will support the ongoing leadership development of the program’s alumni in teaching, school leadership, and other fields from which they are addressing poverty and educational equity.
This year in Miami-Dade, 300 Teach For America corps members will reach students in underserved schools while several alumni are working from every sector to level the playing field for students and families in low-income communities.
