Graduate School and Employer Partnerships

As a Teach For America corps member, you’ll develop strengths that are critical to being a successful teacher in a low-income community. These skills are also essential to leadership across many other professions and sectors. We see our corps members’ talent and resolve play out in the classroom and beyond, and so do the exceptional graduate schools and employers that actively recruit second-year corps members and alumni.

In addition, many graduate schools and employers offer special benefits to our corps members and alumni. These range from two-year employment deferrals to application fee waivers and special scholarships once you’ve completed your two-year commitment. Explore these opportunities below.

Teach For America's partnership with Harvard Law School allowed me to defer my admission for two years to participate in the corps. As a result, my legal education is fuller and more focused.

Josh Sparks, New Mexico Corps ‘08
I spent a year as a board member of the Metropolitan Lighthouse Charter School board. The president found my resume on Teach For America’s Job and Opportunity Board, so that clearly is how I had such a great opportunity. I'm now considering a new board opportunity, which also came to me through the same source.
Amanda Cahn, Phoenix Corps ‘06
I used my AmeriCorps scholarship to attend graduate school at the University of South Carolina. Additionally, my applications fees were waived at many schools due to my affiliation with Teach For America.
Kim Cochran, Charlotte Corps ‘08

Brandy Johnson, Las Vegas Valley Corps ‘05
As an alum, I had the opportunity to work with the South Dakota Counts program through Black Hills State University. This program has allowed me to work towards my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, eventually receive my math specialist endorsement, and to also serve as a math teacher leader in my school.
