Certification and Testing

All St. Louis corps members have the opportunity to not only gain full certification by the end of their two year commitments, but also a masters degree. Corps members teach under a Provisional Certificate, which is valid throughout their two year commitments. Provisional certificates are nonrenewable and can ultimately lead to full certification. In order to qualify for the provisional certificate, all corps members are required to complete nine units of certification coursework through Buena Vista University (BVU) during their first semester of teaching and complete an academic contract.

In partnership with Teach For America • St. Louis, the University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL) offers coursework that can be used toward a master's in elementary, secondary, and special education. Classes take place once or twice per week and are taught as a cohort. UMSL courses are designed to accommodate corps members’ schedules as best as possible.
