Describe where you live. What is your neighborhood like?

I live in an incredible house built in the 1920’s. It is in the heart of Midtown. I love the location because I have immediate proximity to restaurants, bars, and stores while living in a neighborhood setting.

What do you like most about living in Memphis?

I love the centrality within the south. We are within driving distance of Nashville, Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans, and Dallas.

What is your everyday life like?

I work about 12 hours a day between teaching and university classes. Although I work a lot, when I leave work I go home to a comfortable house and try to do an activity outside of my professional responsibilities. My favorite things to do are sitting out in the backyard for dinner or riding my bike through my neighborhood.

What is the nightlife/weekend-life like in Memphis?

You can always find a variety of things to do on the weekends. My weekends range from boating at a nearby lake to attending a show at the Orpheum Theater, to a night out in Midtown or on Beale.

Do you find that you can live comfortably here on your teacher's salary?

Yes. Even with my love of shopping I find it easy to live off my salary.

What does the achievement gap look like in your school?

In my classroom, the achievement gap is represented by the vast differences in background knowledge that my students have.

What do you think is the greatest misconception people have about Memphis?

I think people often do not recognize the communal spirit that exists here. Memphis is full of people who want to work together for a common cause to make it a better city and place to live.
