| The cost of living in an urban area, like Los Angeles, is higher than that of rural or suburban areas in other parts of the country. However, corps members are able to find affordable housing in a variety of areas such as Echo Park, Downey, El Segundo, Inglewood, or Koreatown. About half of Los Angeles corps members live with other corps members. There are plenty of apartments throughout Los Angeles and the style varies from large complexes with gated parking to small quads with unique architecture and street parking. Corps members generally find housing during their regional induction or the institute, once they know their school placement. Typically, corps members find housing through other corps members, Craigslist, and apartment rental companies. Although there is public transportation in Los Angeles, it is not extensive enough to meet all the needs of a new resident and teacher here. A car is essential. |
