Certification and Testing

In order to enroll in a certification program, corps members must take and pass the PRAXIS Series: Teacher Licensure and Certification. Applicants assigned to the Las Vegas Valley will receive more information about these exams once they are accepted.

Teach For America • Las Vegas Valley has established a partnership with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to allow corps members to pursue certification. All corps members are required to enroll in the dual Master's of Education and Licensure program. Corps members who successfully complete the coursework requirements will be granted a Master’s of Education upon completion of the two-year commitment. Only if corps members opt to teach for a third year, will they then be eligible for licensure in the state of Nevada, and many decide to continue to teach for a third year for this eligibility. In addition, it is possible for corps members to apply their UNLV licensure coursework toward licensure in many other states immediately upon completion of their two-year commitment.
