Why did you choose Jacksonville?

I came to Jacksonville because I love it here! I had the good fortune of spending my first 18 years in the “Bold New City of the South," and I jumped at the chance to come back. Teach For America and Jacksonville are a perfect combination.

What are your goals and aspirations for the next 2 years?

My students will meet their big goal each year. This year, our goal is to master 80 percent of our prioritized standards, to score a “four” on the FCAT Reading, and to write a research paper that scores a “five” on the eighth grade FCAT Writing Rubric.

Beyond this year, I will strive to prepare every one of my students for college. Ultimately, my personal goal for the coming years is to gain a greater understanding of the problems facing our students and to acquire the tools to address them.

How you plan on contributing to closing the achievement gap in Jacksonville?

By educating my students about the achievement gap and then doing everything we can to make academic progress, our class will begin to roll back the gap in Jacksonville!
