What do you like most about living in Denver?
I love seeing the Denver skyline against the snow covered mountains as I pull up to work every morning.

What is it like to teach in Denver Public Schools?
I enjoy working for DPS. It is a district that seems to have the best interest for our children in mind. I also am very proud to be a part of the Pro-Comp system here in Denver, a system that is intended to hold teachers more accountable and reward them with effort-based pay.

How do the different types of schools and communities where your fellow corps members work influence your Teach For America experience?
I currently teach at a school with a very high Latino population and love it. It is the same type of demographics as the middle and high school I attended as a student in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas (which is another Teach For America region).

What do you like best about your placement school?
I love my school. I have always dreamt of being part of the type of educational reform that is happening at Bruce Randolph School. I am blessed to be working with a group of like-minded, dedicated, student-focused teachers. My administration and veteran teachers are extremely supportive and encouraging. We work together as a community of educators to serve the best interests of our students.

How has your life changed as a Denver corps member?
I have pushed myself more than I can ever remember pushing myself in my life before. Even though I have always wanted to teach, there was a period this year that I questioned how I would be able to survive in teaching as a career. Through perseverance and the support of my fellow corps members and Denver staff, I was able to realize that all first year teachers go through rough times and that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. The struggles I have gone through have only reaffirmed with greater intensity my dream of continuing as an educator and impacting the lives of children.
