Certification and Testing

Corps members must take and pass the PRAXIS II: Professional Assessments for Beginning Teachers. Corps members cannot be placed in a Charlotte-Mecklenburg teaching position without passing scores on their PRAXIS II exam. Applicants assigned to Charlotte will receive further information about exams once they are accepted.

Corps members are required to complete six credit hours during each of their two years in order to be in compliance with North Carolina licensure requirements. Corps members work toward their teacher licensure through a partnership with the University of Noth Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) Currently, after meeting certain residency requirements and submitting appropriate paperwork, all licensure courses at UNCC are available at no cost to corps members through the CMS Teacher Tuition Benefit program; please note that this benefit is reviewed each year by CMS and there are no guarantees for future years. Corps members also pay an initial application fee of approximately $60 (subject to change at the discretion of UNCC).
