Alumni Awards

Teach For America actively supports and recognizes the efforts of our alumni to effect systemic change within classrooms and communitites.

The Peter Jennings Award for Civic Leadership ($10,000 prize) is presented annually to a Teach For America alumnus/a whose work has led to far-reaching systemic change in the last year. Nominees should demonstrate significant and measurable impact in addressing an issue of critical importance to closing the achievement gap and should embody the core values of Teach For America.

The Teach For America Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes the exemplary work of up to 10 of our alumni teachers annually. We believe that the lessons learned from our strongest alumni teachers will allow us to test, inform and refine what we currently believe to be the teacher strategies most predictive of student success.

The Teach For America Social Innovation Award ($125,000) is intended to spark bold, new innovations that expand opportunities and eliminate educational inequity for students in low-income communities. The award is a critical component of Teach For America’s broader innovation strategy and recognizes alumni whose work exemplifies innovation, leadership skills, and transformative impact and sustainability.
