Our 12,000 alumni are a leadership force - working from within education and from every sector to effect fundamental change.

Alumni impact

As we carry out our 19th year in New York City, Teach For America’s presence continues to grow in numbers and influence, with both corps members and alumni working at the forefront of the movement for educational equity. In the fall of 2008, nearly 1,000 corps members began teaching in more than 300 classrooms throughout the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan; together, they will impact the lives of an estimated 60,000 students.

Currently, more than 2,100 alumni call New York City home, working from all sectors to continue to effect lasting, systemic change. Over 100 of our alumni are serving as principals, deans, assistant principals, and principals-in-training; dozens are serving in key positions throughout the Department of Education; and many others are leading some of the city’s most innovative education and social reform efforts.

As Teach For America works to intensify our strategic alumni support and strengthen our connections and collaborations, we are excited to realize the enormous potential of both the individual leadership and collective strength of our alumni network.

*Statistics about our alumni change rapidly as former corps members move to expand their impact by taking on new leadership opportunities, and as our alumni force as a whole expands every year. As a result, all statistics on this page are accurate as of August 8, 2008.
