Peace Corps An independent United States federal agency devoted to world peace and friendship, providing dedicated individuals with volunteer opportunities to live and work in developing countries. Since 1961, more than 190,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 139 countries working in education, agriculture, business, environmental preservation, and other areas of development. Service is 27 months for US Citizens over 18 years of age. The AATF program recruits, develops, and supports qualified African-American candidates seeking a teaching career who will commit to teach in the Charlottesville or Albemarle County public schools. AATF Fellows are provided financial support for tuition, books and fees, academic advising, mentoring, and Professional Development seminars. |

Philadelphia Math and Science Coalition A partnership among businesses, universities, schools, and cultural organizations with the mission to prepare Philadelphia youth to excel in math and science for success in post-secondary education and in an increasingly global workforce that requires math and science backgrounds. Teachers 2000 Partnership A full-time partnership between The George Washington University and Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland, where teaching fellows earn 100% tuition assistance for courses required for licensure. Earn teaching certification and a master's degree in two years. |

The Urban Teacher Center The Urban Teacher Center (UTC) is a four-year alternative teacher-preparation program launching in the Washington, D.C. region in August 2010. The first cohort will participate in an intensive year-long residency, followed by a three-year teaching commitment in a high-need urban elementary or middle school. UTC’s residents will be fully prepared to become highly competent teachers; in addition to the clinical experience, residents also enroll in a new Master’s of Education program that is directly relevant to the urban teacher.
